Game 19/20 |
Reds 15, Royals 5 (Gm1) Reds 11, Pigs Heaven 4 (Gm2) |
August 21, 2005 |
George Lovett knocked in five runs on three doubles and earned a complete
game win in an 11-4 victory over top-seeded Pigs Heaven on Sunday. The win puts the Reds
up 1-0 in the best-of-three series set to resume this Sunday in Somers Point. Lovett struck out
13 batters in the contest, as the Reds opened defense of their 2004 crown. Earlier in the day,
the Reds advanced to the Quarter Final round with a 15-5 rout of the Manahawkin Royals.
The Reds put the Royals away early with a 12-run third inning. That was enough for Brad Zerbe
who won his third straight playoff game dating back to last year. Mark Kraus (2-2) had two RBI
and Darin D'Andrea (2-3) drove in four in the 14-hit attack. |

The Reds won their Quarter Final playoff series versus top-seed Pigs Heaven Herd by taking Game Three
by a score of 17-6. The Reds took complete command of the game in the early going, building an insurmountable 10-0 lead
after six innings. George Lovett went the distance, walking none and striking out eight. The Reds pounded five homers
(Bob McGeehan, Ray Rose, Pete DiLorenzo, Sean Agin, John Biasi) in advancing to the Semi-Finals. The Reds had dropped
Game Two by a score of 20-15 earlier in the day to force the final game. That slugfest saw Mark Kraus, John Sawn, Lovett,
and Agin all homer. Agin and Jason Silver had four hits apiece in the loss. The Reds now face USOTB South Division winner
Margate in Margate in the best-of-three series. Game time is slated for 9am. |

The Reds responded to their Game One Semi-Final loss to Margate by defeating the South East Division
champs 6-4 on Sunday. George Lovett pitched his third complete game of the playoffs (1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K) for the win. Bob
McGeehan led off the bottom of the first with a homer to knot the score at 1-1. The Reds added two more runs in the inning
to build a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. Pete DiLorenzo went 3-4 with three RBI, including a home run, in the win.
Margate took Game One by building a 7-0 through five innings. Mark Kraus and John Biasi each had two RBI as part of a
late Reds' rally that fell short. The two teams will meet next Sunday at 9:30am for the right to play the Point
Thunder in the South Finals. The game will be played in Haddon Twp. |
Game 25 |
Margate 7, Reds 6 |
September 18, 2005 |
The Reds were defeated by Margate 7-6 in Game Three of the South Semi-Finals,
ending their attempt to repeat as USOTB State Champions. Margate, looking to avenge last year's
loss in the Semi's to Collingswood, took an early 4-2 advantage after three innings off Reds' starter
George Lovett. The Reds struck for single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the score
4-4, but Margate responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-4
lead. The Reds would not go quietly, however, immediately scoring twice in the sixth to pull
within 7-6. But Margate would hold that lead over the final three frames, despite a late Reds'
threat in the ninth, to earn the South title. |
